Jameka went into the Caulfield Cup as a clear favourite following her outstanding efforts in the Naturalism Stakes and the Turnbull Stakes and the talented mare always looked like the horse to beat.

Jockey Nick Hall gave Jameka an outstanding run in transit and she hit the front at the top of the straight before she raced away from the rest of the field to stamp herself as one of the best staying mares in recent memory.

Hall had to do a great deal of hard work to get his weight down to the 52.5 kilograms and he was clearly delighted to have won the Caulfield Cup for the second time.

“I have to really thank Ciaron Maher and the stable,” Hall said.

“The way that he has prepped this run by run has been to win this and he has won it.

“It is all worth it.”

Maher gave Jameka a flawless 2016 Caulfield Cup lead-up and her victory in the Group 1 event this afternoon capped off what was truly an outstanding training performance.

A typically modest Maher was quick to pay credit to the rest of his stable as well as the ride of Nick Hall, while his left his strongest tribute to what he believes is a very special horse.

“It is a credit to the team,” Maher said.

“Nick Hall gave her a perfect ride – he was very cool and he made the weight.

“It is just fantastic and we are thrilled.

“She does over race a bit and she is just a competitive horse and when those horses were outside her she was flicking her head and she was actually over racing that much.

“I wasn’t over concerned and about 100 I thought that we were kicking into gear now.

“She is quiet a rare horse.

“I was happy to take on the boys in the autumn in the Derby and I think she is just an extraordinary horse and she proved that today.”

Jameka has been included in the nominations for both the Cox Plate and the Melbourne Cup, but Maher is yet to confirm where she will have her next race start.
