Jumping from the gates well, the Heart’s Cry entire settled in prime position within the pack, allowing early leaders Brambles, Sea Moon and Rising Romance to set a fair tempo passing the post the first time.

Continuing to run in a good rhythm over the back straight, Admire Rakti was pushed wide rounding onto the final straight and appeared to have too much to do as classy mare Rising Romance found an ideal line along the rails but quickly spooled up and exploded down the outside; reaching the four-year-old with 100m to run and comfortably finding the line in the clear; pre-post favourite Lucia Valentina pipping a brave punter’s pick Brambles to the line for third.

Leading Hong Kong-based jockey Zac Purton delivered a perfectly-timed ride on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup, complementing the horse’s ideal preparation and bloodline for the standout performance.

“You only to look at his run in the Japan Cup to know he was going to be hard to beat today,” Purton said immediately after crossing the line.

“I was able to get a lovely run in the race; three wide with a bit of cover – Japanese horses love that.

“Just bring him through with a nice clear run, I knew he was better than them and it worked out that way.

“It’s the way their trained and it’s the way the races are run over there; that’s what they’re used to so don’t break something that’s not broken.”

Trainer Tomoyuki Umeda was on hand to witness Admire Rakti’s impressive victory in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and laid the praise on an exceptional ride from Purton, and hopes for a continued run of luck leading into the Melbourne Cup.

“He had a handicap of 58 and hadn’t done much big racing in Japan, but the horse likes Australia,” Umeda said following the 2014 Caulfield Cup.

“He (Zac Purton) rode the horse once before and he was perfect.

“It all depends on the owner, but the owner likes it here so hopefully next year we’ll come back again.

“Everything is going well, so hopefully this luck keeps going to the Melbourne Cup.”

An undisputed Caulfield Cup champion this afternoon, Admire Rakti is sure to shorten in betting markets for success in the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November.
