Assistant trainer Takahide Ando told TVN that Bande would be given a light canter on the Caulfield course this Saturday in a bid to familiarise the horse with what he’ll encounter come Caulfield Cup day after coming out of quarantine that morning.

Bande will be taken through the tie-up stalls, pre-parade ring, and finally the mounting yard to give him a full induction.

“The main thing is to help him adapt to the Caulfield racecourse,” Ando said.

Bande is currently paying odds of $7.50 for the 2014 Caulfield Cup, the only single figure hopeful besides Lucia Valentina ($5.50), following a five length win from his last start in a Listed race at Sapporo.

Dear Demi, My Ambivalent, and Who Shot Thebarman are all tied for third-favourite at a price of $11.

Next week Bande will undertake barrier practice on the Caulfield course, again in a bid to ensure everything goes right on Caulfield Cup day.

Ando praised the horse’s work earlier today with stablemate Raizon, saying: “we thought he moved very well, everything is going well.

“We will be giving him some more sharp work.”

Trainer Yoshito Yahagi is expected back at the Werribee quarantine centre next Wednesday, the same day Bande will have his final serious gallop before the Cup.
